I, Brett Callaghan, had this idea of creating a Barbados Island Guide website for my island home of Barbados.
View the timeline of our growth over the last fourteen (14) years as we provide valuable exposure for travel and tourism on our Barbados Island Guide.
May 10th, 2020 – version 4.2
During the past fourteen (14) years, I continually work on updating and enhancing our Barbados island guide.
Totally Barbados remains a popular travel and destination website guide, which helps locals and visitors to effortlessly learn about Barbados.
May 25th, 2018 – version 4.1
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) was adopted on April 14th, 2016, and became enforceable beginning May 25th, 2018.
The GDPR aims to give control to individuals over their data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU.
Controllers and processors of personal data must put in place appropriate technical and organizational measures to implement the data protection principles.
Therefore we continued to safeguard further and secure our website for our users. Particularly for data protection and privacy in the European Union (EU) and the world.
October 24th, 2016 – version 4.0
I teamed up with a professor from New York and a developer from Vietnam to produce the current site.
With the increasing size of our Barbados Island Guide, I decided an upgrade was needed to better manage a website with thousands of images, pages, and business listings.
We built this next version of the website on the leading open-source content management system.
WordPress powers over 35% of business websites and personal blogs on the internet. On average, people use WordPress to create one on four websites that you visit on the web. To provide better WordPress hosting and support, I upgraded to WP Engine.
October 15th, 2012 – version 3.0
A new design was created on Powerseek with a corporate and professional design that embraced the colors of our national flag.
Version 3.0 was active for approximately four (4) years. Unfortunately, PowerSeek was retired in December 2014 as it hit the end of its life cycle.
July 21st, 2006 – version 2.0
With assistance from a friend in Ohio, I decided to launch version 2.0 of Totally Barbados using PowerSeek SQL Site Manager by Focal Media.
We built the new version on Powerseek as it offered a WYSIWYG editor on content fields. Images were now easily uploaded, with resizing capabilities. Version 2.0 was active for approximately six (6) years.
I also decided to move my web hosting to Cartika data centers in Canada and the USA for reliability and faster access.
With the growth of the internet, it became much more comfortable to meet people online. I met various people from around the world within the technology side of the business, who shared my views. Many have influenced and helped me to get to where I am today. Thank you to them all.
September 1st, 2005 – version 1.0
Totally Barbados was first launched by myself, Brett Callaghan, from my home in Barbados. My initial design used Microsoft Sharepoint, but after eleven (11) months, I created version 2.0 on a different platform.
